Keep the Wheel of Productivity Spinning

Food and Beverages Tech Review

Conveyors are the lifeline of many commercial and industrial facilities, and any disruption is bound to negatively impact productivity and profitability. WyCo Services, with its experience of over half a century in conveyor system design, mechanical and electrical installation, and material handling systems, offers a customer-centric maintenance program that helps conveyor systems perform continuously with minimal to no downtime.

WyCo specializes in the installation, design, and maintenance of all types of conveyors, including baggage, cargo, and gravity-fed conveyors, as well as automated, sophisticated air and mechanical pressure-sensitive conveyors. It helps take corrective action, reduce downtime, and increase productivity by synchronizing it with the preventative maintenance program.

Its dedication to resolving customers’ productivity issues, highly trained technicians, and diligence in performing maintenance has brought huge success to WyCo Services, leading to its growth from two to four different conveyor zones and diversifying its operations from coast to coast in the U.S.

“Our growth is driven by customers asking us by name if we would be willing to open up new territories to facilitate their day-to-day needs,” says Jake Allen, Business Development Director.

WyCo closely works with TSA, DHS, the Airport Authority, and large-scale equipment manufacturers and system integrators, providing professional and reliable installation. It currently represents 22 different manufacturers of equipment globally, both in conveyors and other material handling equipment that can be integrated with conveyor systems.

Predicting the Future for Better Productivity

WyCo’s preventative maintenance program is custom designed, with every potential part within the client’s system identified and documented. The program enables the technicians to track every repair and adjustment made on that particular unit through different apps.

Preparing a good preventative maintenance schedule and reporting is equivalent to predicting what could create problems for the customer, helping them fix it before they’re shut down, and identifying parts they may need to replace. WyCo also maintains internal an engineering software that tracks individual clients’ preventative maintenance processes.

Upon completion of the preventative maintenance schedule at their location, a report is presented to the client, with details on activities completed and repairs recommended, along with a severity rating for every repair. The severity rating helps the client prioritize the repairs depending on the type of conveyor or equipment, its usage, and its wear and tear.

WyCo is transparent with its clients while offering optional preventative maintenance solutions.

They can choose according to their maintenance needs and allocated budget and plan out their fiscal year based on the maintenance tracking software. It provides relevant data specifying the reasons for suggesting weekly, monthly, quarterly, or yearly preventative maintenance on the machines.

Significant improvements in productivity and savings on future financial burdens have encouraged clients to budget for maintenance funds and invest in preventative measures with WyCo.

One-Stop Shop for Improving Conveyor Productivity

The driving force behind WyCo’s exemplary services as a one-stop shop is its passionate team of professionals, including trained technicians and subject matter experts, with years of experience, who are hands-on in providing the perfect solution for their client’s unique issues.

Best illustrating its commitment to client support is when it helped a chocolate company enhance productivity. The chocolate company’s engineering team faced a dilemma when it could not separate the frozen seasonal fruits for producing chocolate-covered fruits. The frozen fruits kept moving in chunks on the conveyor through different chocolate processes, resulting in a 22 percent material loss. The high rate of rejected finished products compelled the company to reach out to WyCo for help.

WyCo’s technicians observed the process, identified the cause of material loss, and custom-built a pneumatic shaking table that broke the frozen fruit chunks and ran the fruit pieces into the existing process. This custom-built equipment brought down the material loss from 22 percent to 6 percent, directly increasing the efficiency and productivity of the chocolate company. Within two years, that difference alone allowed them to grow from a two-line operation to a four-line operation.

WyCo takes pride in giving credit for its growth and success as a one-stop solution provider to the success of its clients. When clients operate at a high level of productivity with no downtime and improved profitability, only then does the WyCo team feel it has fulfilled its purpose as a solution provider.

Cross Training with Manufacturers

The changing times, processes, and technologies necessitate an accompanying change in employee knowledge and skill sets. To bring a perfect solution to its clients, WyCo looks for avenues of opportunity to swap and cross-train its technicians with manufacturers from different zones and regions on different methods and technologies. On-the-job training at the manufacturer’s site gives crucial insights into designs, and critical improvement techniques are collected from the manufacturer and vendors for designing the best plan to make certain repairs.

WyCo believes that one client issue can be solved in at least 22 unique ways when there are 22 different manufacturers with their experiences. Cross-training helps technicians train under different experts and learn their individual styles of approaching and solving client issues.

For almost five decades, from California to Boston, WyCo Services has set benchmarks in the conveyor space for material handling, facility maintenance, repair services, and preventative maintenance services.

Its services will continue to be the trusted and preferred partner for scores of manufacturers in the conveyor and related equipment space across the U.S. in maximizing productivity and efficiency.
