THANK YOU FOR SUBSCRIBING
When the pandemic layoffs demanded she and her family take the reins of their restaurants, she immediately noticed a scope for improvement in the tipping and the gratuity distribution system. She designed a platform to simplify the process and hired software developers, First Descent Software to bring it to fruition, creating the TipOut Canada platform and streamlining the tipping system.
The razor-thin profit margin in restaurants discourages extra payments and strives for cost-saving measures. Employing someone just to balance the day’s sales, figure out tips and put it in a spreadsheet can be human error-prone and quite a burden for restaurants. Acknowledging this as a problem across the industry, TipOut Canada set out to offer its platform as a solution.
“The precision and clarity in gratuity calculation offered by our platform frees our clients from the hassle of managing spreadsheets and figuring out tips manually,” says Windsor, owner and president.
Apart from the cost savings, the platform brings a sense of transparency to the entire gratuity distribution system. The money that’s been processed isn’t owned by the restaurant but belongs to the employees. The employees have their wallets in the platform allowing them to observe the distribution of the tips transparently, ensuring nothing has been allocated off somewhere else. The staff have mutually created and agreed upon the distribution process and breakdown before set-up.
Creating and setting up a customized process is of key importance. The platform can be tailored to work with direct, individual or pooled tip models while following current tipping guidelines. It also figures out allocations for other departments automatically. It can interact with various point-of-sale software to collect information and very effectively calculate gratuity.
After installing TipOut Canada in a restaurant, the manager acknowledged it streamlined their entire process as their employees don’t have to approach them regularly to inquire about the gratuity distribution. The clarity has made the manager's job so much easier.
The platform is built to work and support any model. It can even work on the controlled tip model as the cost savings come from the considerable reduction in working hours required for gratuity distribution. Add it to the ease of doing business with the streamlined process, and it becomes a natural fit for food and beverage operations.
